Just an addendum:
I already have the permissions set to 774 for the entire site. I have
deleted the .htaccess files as suggested by the apache staff. So what
happens now is the when I run update.php as the group owner it rebuilds
an .htaccess file in the /images/temp container. I do not know what else
to try. Any suggestions.
