For both EDM and POM House physicians (EDM if doing VR documentation,
otherwise they use a COW or the Nurse Station):

IBM ThinkPad - loved by me, hated by all other (so I inherited one!!)
Toshiba - too heavy, too slow
Acer - too heavy, too slow
Panasonic Toughbook - final selection, now widely accepted.

Hope this helps. If you're using VR with Dragon Naturally Speaking, I
would beef up the notebook somewhat....

We have been up with EDM for two years. The only tablet we use is in
the Fast Track area. Our physicians have a work area for them only. So
far this is working for them. When we went Live in EDM our commitment
to the physicians and the department would be any devices they needed.
We have a Gateway 42 plasma which replaced the white board. We probably
could do away with this since every pc has the tracker. We have found
the staff and physicians work off their pc's. Our physicians do not
document yet. We are waiting for 5.5 (Magic). We are working on AOM for
their prescriptions.

We use Motion Computing Tablets for Docs and nurses.

We have been using laptop computers on carts which the docs can wheel
into pt care areas. Looked at hand held and smaller tablets, docs wanted
a full sized keyboard and larger screen. The nurses and registration
also use the same devices for bedside registration and documentation.
Our docs are not doing order entry full time, and do not do online
documentation so many times they just return to their PC at their
stations to enter orders.

Hope this helps

Hello Gloria,
Although I have not implemented EDM, I have implemented an Endo product
which we had evaluated and looked at tough notebooks for clinicians.
Frank Abbott of Infologix was very helpful in working with us and
allowed us to sample many different types to make the right decision.
He also has a variety of hardware, site specific fabrication and a host
of other vendors he works with for bar code scanning, readers etc.
Hope that is helpful.
Here is Franks information:
