We mail out a "coupon" with the detailed bill instructing the patient to return it with their payment within 30 days. If they do so, we deduct the amount at cash posting. Have not found a way to automatically put the discount on the account, and then take it off if the patient does not pay in 30 days. So we do it manually. BTW, discount applies to self pay balances only, not copays or balances after insurance. Do they have this automated through Meditech or is the discount a manual process for the Cashiers? We will be implementing a Prompt Pay discount within the next few months and are wondering how to automate the discount on the statements so the patient sees what they should pay within the first 30 days of receipt, but making sure that the discount is removed after 30 days if payment in full is not received.
