My understanding regarding signing off orders has always been that staff were signing off that their unit was aware of, and had taken appropriate action on those orders. Regardless of eMAR or not, appropriate action has always been communicate those orders to pharmacy and write them on the MAR. If your users are not allowed to add them to the MAR then all they are supposed to do is communicate to pharmacy. When pharmacy enters the orders into eMAR, at that point acknowledging those orders would be checking that the information now entered in pharmacy is correct. Same kind of sequence would apply to checking that the accudose/pyxis profile is correct. That shouldn't stop signing off the orders. The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== Good Morning Inquiring how others are handling this situation - Nursing Staff are reluctant to sign off physician orders written on off shifts when pharmacy is closed as they can not validate the medication orders. My thoughts are that the acknowledgement of drug via eMAR/BMV once pharmacy has entered the orders is the validation of the physician orders for medications - A process change from the paper MAR world. - Has anyone else had their nurses voice this concern? Thank you in advance for any insight/suggestions.
