The staff in our IS department that support the clinical areas have full access to those applications. We routinely have to emulate users to reproduce problems or help fix errors in documentation etc. Everything we do is documented in our work orders, including the account #'s of patients that we have accessed. As long as the informatics nurse is aware of accountability and responsibility related to HIPAA, and the consequences of not following policy there should not be an issue. Charli B. Charli H.
