Hi Diane,
I just received some information that I think will be helpful:
Regarding the issue of long load times, there are two components that cause
that process to so long:

Meditech was reading the file 1 line at a time and then processing that
information which had the effect of really working your hard drive for 14+
hours. Meditech is working on a change in that the system will now batch
multiple lines and then process them. In their test system, the load time was
cut down from 14 hours to just over 6 hours. This change will be seen in the
near future.

Micromedex has a long drug file in the MAS module. MAS stands for Medication
Advisory Screening. The reason for the length of this is that they never purge
deactivated or dc'd NDC's in Redbook. They are looking at a new process now
where they will have an initial load to include these old drugs that still may
be around but then future refreshes will only list drugs active in the last 3
years. This will cut down on the length of the monthly loads.

hope this helps

Ron

Hello,
We are Magic 5.4.2 and are looking at switching from Micromedex to some other
Formulary service such as First DataBank.
Is there anyone out there using First Databank? I would be interested to know
what your experience has been. We have had a number of issues with Micromedex.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
