Hi Sue-
Unfortunately, most facilities are entering that as 2 separate orders if they want the "Dose Warning" to appear - 1 tab for mild pain, 2 for moderate pain, etc.  If you use the zero dose box (Dose Instructions), that does appear on the first page of Full Document (FD) in the eMAR so nursing will have the info they need.

One thought: if the adjust dose button is not available on the verb strip the nurse won't be able to administer anything but what is indicated in the order entry so that "Dose Warning" message is irrelevant and isn't needed.  In fact it should never appear...

Hope all is well up north - best of luck - Kevin.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Zero Dosing With BMV

We are in the process of implementing Meditech BMV and have a question about zero dosing.  Presently, we are using McKesson’s Bedside Medication Verification product AdminRX. When pharmacy enters a zero dosed medication, for example Lortab 1-2 tablets, the McKesson product recognizes 1-2 tablets and will give an overdose warning when an administration of 3 tablets is attempted. It will not give a warning if the nurse attempts to administer either 1or 2 tablets.

It is our understanding that the Meditech BMV product does not recognize the dose limitations entered for 0 dose orders.  How are other facilities handling this?  Our Meditech specialist is recommending we include the dose range in the comment field.  We want to streamline the workflow for our pharmacists and also ensure nurses receive the proper warning messages for overdose/underdose.

Any help you can give us would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
