Frieda - We are switching to Datamax I Class: DMX-I 4208 from the dot-matrix printers because only thermal labels support barcodes, they have a smaller footprint, and are much quiter.
We also have Pyxis connect and we have had problems linking orders. The biggest thing to watch for is make sure that when doing a Meditech update that the part of the patient screen that Pyxis reads has not changed; it did for 5.4 and Pyxis had to make some changes. Also, we had a period when Pyxis changed something and it was only reading about 25% of the orders; this took over a month for Pyxis to fix this. Finally, things like scanning an order up-side-down, having an order with the bar code in the wrong place, etc  will cause problems. Out post-op sheet is a variation of the MAR and the patient barcode can't be made to print in the bottom right hand corner. I realized that if the nurse placed a patient sticker on the bottom right hand corner that the problem would be resolved.

Hi All –

My facility is in the very beginning stages of switching our current pharmacy clinical system to Meditech 5.5.3 (we are already live with ADM and B/AR).  We are wondering if you can give us some advice.

First we would like to know what type of printers (and labels) you would recommend and why you chose the printer you are using.  Do you have different printers for IV’s and Med’s?  We will be using bar code technology if that helps.

Secondly, if you are using Pyxis Connect we would like to know if you have encountered any problems with linking orders and if so how you handled it.  Note:  our current labels from ADM print the patient account number on them which includes has the following format:  V00xxxxxxx (x = actual account number).

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
