Mike,

You are correct in everything you mentioned (we went
all thru this too!). Yes, we are all private rooms.
The purpose for scanning is purely to capture charges
and to make the eMAR complete (if we used paper
charting for times during isolation the eMAR would
interpret that as missed doses). And, when combined
w/ the nurse verbally verifying the patient's
identity, it does provide safety with the right dose,
right drug, right time, right route portions of the 5
rights.

Additionally, once we are up and LIVE w/ BMV, the MD's
will become accustomed to looking in PCI for all
medication documentation.

We do not have separate rooms JUST for isolation ...
otherwise Rob's suggestion would be a good one (Rob
... how do you handle cases where isolation is
initiated several days into a patient's hospital stay
.... do you then move the patient to a designated
isolation room?)

Brenda

(PS ... glad you like the name of our hospital <grin!>
Whenever our casemanagers are calling out of town
hospitals on Halloween, the folks on the other end
often think it is a crank call!!)
