I just discovered that the numeric menus in 5.5 responded to mouse
clicks (not so in 5.4). I love it...

Now we did create NUI Desktop menus for EDM and ADM REG Staff.

Even if you keep the numeric menus, your users will have to get used to
using the mouse for status board and flow sheet (not to mention EDM).
You might be able to create shortcut keys for some routines, but the new
functionality of clicking on a result indicator or patient name to get a
demographic snapshot is well worth using the mouse.

I agree that we should have valid reasons for change, and all menus and
users do not need Desktop menus.

This is my humble opinion.

Thanks,

I agree and with 5.5 (magic) the numeric menus are mouse 'clickable' so
you have the best of both worlds. And regardless of which menus you
use, you gain all the 'windows' benefits once inside the application.

The issue with using the desktop menus for users is that they now must
become mouse proficient. That may be a hurdle for some users and if you
are using laptops with a small mouse pad it can increase that level of
difficulty. To me there should be a reason for changes we make. If
users have been navigating their menus fine without the mouse, what is
the reason you give the users for changing up their whole navigation
structure?

Now, in some instances there might be a good reason to change to the
desktop menus. But, I think that decision should be made because the
benefits clearly out weight the detractions - not simply because
Meditech can do it.

I disagree, we use Meditech workstation 4 exclusively and NUI style
menus for most users

Don't go changing the menus to desk top! If you keep the menus the
same, users will only have the color difference to contend with. If you
have attributes or NPR reports that print to screen you may need to
adjust them to work with NUI because the row/column stuff is different.
