So far in 5.5 I have found numeric menus are fine and can be clicked and taken into that routine line the ICONS we use in EDM. At first I too thought I would have to use Desktop menus everywhere, so far only in EDM... The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== We are being told by Meditech that we should go with Icon menus (w/cascading routines & sub-menus) as the advanced clinical modules or "modules of the future" will require this. And we are re-installing two of three hospitals (one is a new install) so this will be very hard for our users. Also I personally think the icon menus are harder to build & use. And the cascades are just ugly. Users get used to the numbers and positions of the routines they use in their menus, and changing to the Desktop menus, with the Cascading Features, can be quite confusing for them. I find that people have internalized position more than the name of a routine, and don't always recognize it in the Cascading menu. If there were something about this type of menu that made it easier for the end user, I would switch, but I have found the opposite to be true. The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== The issue with using the desktop menus for users is that they now must become mouse proficient. That may be a hurdle for some users and if you are using laptops with a small mouse pad it can increase that level of difficulty. To me there should be a reason for changes we make. If users have been navigating their menus fine without the mouse, what is the reason you give the users for changing up their whole navigation structure? Now, in some instances there might be a good reason to change to the desktop menus. But, I think that decision should be made because the benefits clearly out weight the detractions - not simply because Meditech can do it. If you keep the menus the same, users will only have the color difference to contend with. If you have attributes or NPR reports that print to screen you may need to adjust them to work with NUI because the row/column stuff is different.
