Hi Mary,

The Meditech Hospitals in the State of Maryland have had a meeting on
8/1/06 to discuss the POA indicator for UB04. In our state they want to
implement this on 1/1/06. It is our understanding that Hospitals is
Calif. and N.Y. are currently collecting this data. We have someone in
our group which is trying to get information from MT Hospitals in these
states.
Our State has also added 2 other choices besides Y or N, they want N/A
or Unknown when appropriate. We are hoping we can persuade our State to
change their effective date to match Medicare.

In our discussion we agreed in a "perfect" world the Case Managers or
Documentation Staff should work with the Coding department to collect
this data however in reality we also agreed that this task will most
likely fall mainly in the Coders hands. We don't yet know how MT plans
to approach this we have not yet attended any of their on-line seminars.
I think our facility is going to attend next month.
