I have used this attribute to make the query required when the cursor
gets to that query:

It requires the field but not until the user gets to the field..
Therefore users can file the assessment if need be

REQI=IF{/S.LAST.QUERY'="NURPAINYN" "";
REQI='/S.A @W.err
REQI=("Pain is Blank,You must answer Y/N/U ");""}

You would need to edit the /S.LAST.QUERY to be the actual query
mnemonic.

You could set up the next fields to not stop right on this query and the
user would need to hit enter to reach the query. Or somehow let them
bypass the required query until they had the data to answer it.

I agree with Daniel and Kenny that you should be careful and consider
when and why your requiring queries. If it is required, the user must
have the data to answer it, or have a way out...

Good Luck,

Of course, you should only "require" queries that you honestly do not
want users to be able to leave blank. If that is your rule, then aren't
you asking for trouble to say you want a way to allow the information to
be filed without those "required" queries being filled out?

Now, that being said, we do have an HCA custom that may be going by the
way side shortly as we move toward the standard Meditech programming.
It allows the user to "File Unverified". If they do that the system
doesn't look at any required items. Users can "Verify" an unverified
assessment. The issue is that if no one verifies the assessment and the
patient is discharged, it is as if that assessment was never completed.

In addition, as Kenny pointed out, you end up needing to set up
elaborate schemes to ensure that something gets finished later. I would
think that the better idea would be to simply require queries sparingly
and live with the fact that they must be completed in order to file.
Let's say you have 10 queries that are required on an assessment. If
the user has to file that assessment and doesn't want to actually
complete the assessment, they can finish those "required" queries and
file. Of course it is then up to them to remember to go back and finish
the assessment that they need to.

Hi Laura,

You could break your assessment up into sections or pages and use an
REQ or REQI attribute on each query within that section that requires a
response if the first query in that section/page is answered. If the
user hasn't answered the first query in the section/page, then the rest
of the section/page would not be required thus allowing the user to file
the CDS.

The problem I can see with this is how can you be sure that someone
comes back to complete the rest of the assessment? You could write an
NPR report and schedule it to run at regular times. The report could
evaluate to determine if the first required query on the CDS has a
response but the last one does not. That would identify incomplete
assessments. Then print this report to someone (unit charge nurse
perhaps) and list the patient, filing nurse, etc. This person would
then be responsible to ensure that the assessment is completed.

Hope this helps,
Kenny Whiteside

Hello, I know I had received an answer from the L-LINE for an
attribute
that would allow users to file a CDS as long as they had not entered
PAST a
REQ Field. Need for long nursing assessment, so users can go back in &
finish CDS without losing data. Thanks in advance,
