Minnie, we're Magic 5.5. We use SCH for scheduling OR procedures,
including all of our GI procedures, including the related preops, and we
also use SCH for any scheduled outpatient procedures.

The prior system (until May of this year) was simply black appointment
books. While efficient within the OR office, this wasn't always the best
for easy communication with the nursing staff, when necessary.

In SCH, we have resource groups for OR, Outpatient Procedure (OP PROC),
GI, and Pain Management. The resource schedules are similarly
structured, though we also have one in that dictionary for PREOP.
Appointment groups are very similar: OR, OP PROC, PM, and GI. Finally,
appointment types then fall under those four groups.

Our Nursing unit coordinators handle most of the Outpatient procedure
scheduling; they also can view the OR & GI schedules, though they can't
add/change those schedules -- that's handled by the OR staff.

One thing we did to sweeten the pot was to NPR-ize all of the OR & GI
forms, and create nice little packets that OR can print, customized by
patient (or blank if they prefer). And, we automated the daily
appointment lists (for OR and outpatient procedures) to print at
convenient times & places, including in Admitting. For certain
appointment types, we also use e-mail notification to help keep the
right people in the loop when a certain type of appointment is booked.

We have a fledgling centralized scheduling department, but they are
handling radiology appointments & some others; we felt that, for OR & OP
PROC, it was better to leave that de-centralized.

Hope that's what you were looking for, let me know if you have more
questions!

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Scheduling

We are a Magic shop with most of the older
applications.(BAR,Scheduling,Clinicals, etc) What we would like is
advice on how others are using be it Meditech or Other to schedule for
OR,ENDO,Ambulatory etc. Our Users have about 4 spreadsheets done in MOX
way back from 1992 and can't see out of this box. Real problem here
everybody faxing to each other to try to keep these spreadsheets
maintained for other Hospital areas to view. Also a big problem for our
physician offices what area to call for what appointment.

Your input is greatly appreciated.
