Subject: Tracking Fast Track

Our ED is preparing to try out a Fast Track (i.e., increase the flow of
non-acute ED patients by using Phys Assistants or NPs to care for this
population while the physicians are caring for the more acute cases). We
want to be able to track all the data that goes with it (i.e., # of visits,
revenue, etc.).

My questions:

1. Does your facility operate a Fast Track? If so, how do you track the
data (e.g., by location mnemonic, account type mnemonic, etc.)?

2. (Non-Meditech related) If the PA/NP sees the patient but a physician is
technically the one in charge of the ED, are you billing with the PA/NP on
the claim (Medicare) or are you billing with the physician? Does the
physician have to actually see the patient face-to-face to be able to bill
using the physician as the provider?

3. Lastly, if you were around when your Fast Track was started, do you
recall if you saw an increase in volume (either ED only or admits via ED)?

Thank you for any input you can provide!
