I would also add that you have to be diligent with regard to bulk packages. In some cases, the NDC number of the outer package is different from the NDC number of the individual dose.
For example, Ceftriaxone for Injection 250 mg vial from Sandoz is distributed in a box of 10 vials:
        Meditech NDC        00781-3206-95 (hyphens added for clarity)
        Outer box        0781-3206-95
        Individual vial        0781-3206-85
Both numbers need to be scanned into the ALT NDC field. The first one for inventory purposes, and the second one for BMV purposes.
