Hi David,

We went live with Meditech Magic NUR 5.5, April 2003 with Care Plans, and NANDA, NIC, NOC for our diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes. We do not currently use it for acuity or staffing and scheduling. Please feel free to call me at 315-787-4042 if you have any questions that I can help you out with, or you want to see how we are using it. I can set you up with one of our Core Team members who could show you how they use it ion the floors.

Thanks, Patti

David:

We didn't look at documentation from a productivity standpoint. We looked at it from a completeness standpoint. You should realize that you will have a six-month lag in productivity with the normal learning curve for Meditech NUR documentation.

I can tell you that our documentation improved about 400% with the implementation of on-line documentation. Suddenly, care plans got individualized, items that were frequently left blank on paper forms actually got documented, intake and output numbers started making sense. In fact, Maternity staff have complained that their productivity dropped because they feel like they are documenting more. They perception is a correct one. Rather than the spotty documentation that they did on paper, their documentation now is complete and clear and they even have individualized care plans for labor! On the other hand, if they had been documenting everything they should have been on paper, their productivity would actually have increased because they no longer have to document the same thing 4-5 times like they did on paper - with matching queries, they can simply recall the data from CDS to CDS.

I wish you well with your implementation. We have been up with NUR documentation since 1998. The acuity we just brought up on two units this year and it was an intense 6-week build. We haven't started Staffing and Scheduling yet but I have heard from other area hospitals on Meditech that it is also an extensive build.
