We had this problem about giving at discharge and decided to give our
vaccines on the day they are written. If the patient has a fever or has
to wait, nursing calls us and tells us to schedule the dose for the next
day.

If you need a reminder, you might try this idea. We use it when
patients are on daily Coumadin dosing. Pharmacy has a medication called
"Coumadin Therapy" which we enter with a Sig of UD which contains no
times for administration, but does put it on the MAR.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] MED NOTIFICATION BEFORE DISCHARGE

Hi,
Me again.
Just wondering what others are doing to alert nursing of a med to be
administered at/before discharge. Meds like the flu vaccine are ordered
usually upon admission by the physician as "give before discharge". If
a patient has a fever and cannot receive it upon admission (or when it
prints on the MAR) and is in-house a week or so, how does nursing
remember to give the med? We do not have NUR module. Meds are ordered
thru pharmacy and dispensed out of pyxis (profile).
Any thoughts or work arounds.
Diane
