Isn't it also unrealistic to think that your unit secretaries/nurses would have 
that knowledge?  When we moved to POE, we determined that the physician would 
simply order the test they desired, and could enter in the comment (if they 
were aware), may use blood already in lab - or something like that.  We expect 
the lab to determine if they have to do another lab draw.

Good Morning,

We are Magic 5.5 and are starting planning for CPOE next year.  I was wondering 
how people are handling add on lab orders with CPOE.  It is unrealistic to 
assume that a provider is going to be knowledgeable of the hundreds of 
different add on criteria to determine whether to order a test as a new draw or 
a test called add on that allows them to comment what test is requested for add 
on.  Please let me know if you have a creative solution to this, or how your 
lab is handling the combining of these orders.
