I forgot to mention that you will have to edit the Macro nur.report.text in the Report
MIS.zcus.pgm.nurins in the CALL.REPORT section as follows:
CALL.REPORT
%Z.rw.fragment("NUR.PC.WORK.zcus.interv.for.instructors.frag.R","NUR.ANV"),
""^XX,
DO{+/R.FRAG.VAL[XX]^XX /R.FRAG.VAL[XX]^/SAVE[XX]}
You will have to substitute the ANV in the "NUR.ANV" in the first line to whatever your
hospital mnemonic is... ours is ANV.
Please let me know if you have any problems.

I need to go to the Bill Mullins School of NPR storage design as I'm not
bright enough to save these things when I send them out.
This is what our CDS looks like.. I don't set these up so don't ask me
why it is the way it is. I'm sure a committee designed it.

We do the same as June but someone determined that the Instructors
need to
sign off on a list of interventions that they reviewed for each student.
We developed a CDS that pulls in the list of interventions documented
by the
student. This list can be edited.. the Instructor Signs off on those
listed. If anyone
would like the macro and NPR reports just let me know. It works the
same way as the Med list we
pull into a CDS and edit for Discharge instructions.

Here is how we handle co-signing and student nurses: We have the
attached screen on interventions for the nursing instructor or
precepting person in the case of interns, etc. We teach the
instructor how to view the data entered on-line by the student/intern
so that he/she can review it prior to documenting on the co-sign CDS.
Other considerations for student nurses:
We've set up our student nurses to go directly to the Status Board and
teach them to use Process Flowsheet instead of Process Interventions.
I've found that this greatly reduces their training time and still
gives them access to everything they need except undoing
documentation. The Nursing Instructors are taught to undo and have
access to undo for others if necessary.
Another thing to keep in mind is if you are doing on-line acuity: you
don't want them "double" documenting the shift assessment. Ours has a
large amount of time tied to it as it includes the med pass and it
will cause the Projected/Required/Documented to be out of alignment
if the student and the assigned nurse both document on it. Instead,
we built a separate student nurse shift assessment intervention which
has no acuity assigned to it but uses the same CDS as the
professional nurses. We tied this to a SN Process Flowsheet which is
set up on each student nurses' default access. That way, the student
doesn't have to add intervention to document against it and they
can't accidentally document against the shift assessment that has
acuity attached.
Hope this information is helpful.

We have completed our NUR implementation and are getting ready to
train the nursing school instructors. How have you taught
them to "co sign" their students' documentation?
We do most of our documentation in CDS and very little in notes.
Appreciate any help. Happy Holidays
