Hi Terry,
I certainly have no experience with the Symbol DS6608
scanner or know its capabilities, but I would think it should scan NDS
number on the RSS codes. However, It may or may not scan the Lot number
and the expiration date. We are testing with the Metrologic 9520
scanners, and so far they have read the NDC number on anything we have
scanned in the pharmacy. It will not read the lot number and expiration
on the RSS codes, but we don't foresee that we will need that with BMV.
So far we have not come across a UPC-A code that I know of. Our scanner
should read them however.
The Metrologic 9520 is probably a step below the Symbol
DS6608 (since it is a CCD and cheaper) so I would image it would scan
these codes also. Have you checked with the manufacturer or read the
manual to see if it will scan these codes? Some times these scanners are
not programmed to read all symbologies out of the box. You may just need
to program it.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Barcode formats
We are working on the implementation of BMV. I was wondering what other
facilities are doing to compensate for the unsupported barcode formats
such as RS Stacked and UPC-A. Also, what about some of the barcodes
that are so small the scanner will not recognize them? We are currently
working with Symbol DS6608 scanners.
I appreciate your time.
Thank you,
Terry Price
