I suspect everyone on BMV/e-MAR has this same issue. We requested a
custom from Meditech (I've posted some of the request below) and it is
being evaluated. Meditech said they had not heard of this issue so far,
which I couldn't quite understand. I think this, or something similar
needs to be added to standard code. Perhaps more requests to Meditech
would speed this up.
Jeff Lee (via Web) - Oct 10, 2006 - 0917 EDT:
Now that we are moving forward with BMV, we've identified the need for
e-MAR
dose administration displaying on the DC Order routine. Is there an
existing
custom out there that would include the last dose documented and/or the
next
dose due?
My suggestion would be to add the last columns of the e-MAR information
into the
open space on the DC Order routine. An example of the information is:
Last Doc Next Admin
10/10 0722 10/10 1200
I would insert it into the DC Order screen as such:
Medication
ASPIRIN 81 MG TAB - Daily starting T+1 (POD 1)
Instructions Start Stop
Rx Sta
81 MG PO DAILY 10/05/06-0900
11/02/06-0859
ACTIVE
Editing Dr HILWI Edit Source
DC Date DC Time Last Doc Next Admin
10/10 0722 10/10 1200
Edit DC Comments?
Stop Date 11/02/06 Stop Time 0859 Soft Stop 7
Why is this important? Currently whenever dc'ing an order and
re-entering the
same med (different dose/frequency) the pharmacist does not know when
the last
dose was given and when to schedule the next dose. In order to find
out, they
need to look via POV and this takes two steps for the pharmacist when
dc'ing an
order. This is particularly of benefit for e-MAR/BMV so that the
pharmacist
knows if they need to dc an order before an administration or after
(based on
nursing administration). Even for sites not BMV, if they have
auto-credits
turned on, this would be a great help to proper dispensing/charging when
change
orders.
Specifically, I'm not wanting the information to do anything in the
routine,
just appear exactly as it does on the e-MAR. If the last documented
dose was
not NOT GIVEN, it should display with the same blue color as on the
e-MAR.
Please let me know if something is already available as a custom. If
not,
please evaluate the feasibility of the request.
Jeff
The information we are asking to add to the DC Order routine is almost
already available in the Adjust Specific Times routine.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] eMAR
We are currently live with eMAR but have a problem when it comes to the
entering of new orders. If a patient is on a med like Solumedrol 100mg
TID and the physician writes a new order for Solumedrol 40mg TID, how
does the pharmacist entering the order know that the patient already
received the 10 am dose at 0945. They received the new order at 0950.
When they enter the med, they enter it for 10 am and it looks like the
dose needs to be given again, therefore an error could be made and the
patient could potentially receive 140mg total at 10 am. We need a way
for the pharmacist doing order entry to be able to know that the dose
was previously given. Any ideas?
Thanks,
