Interesting question. Now pardon me, because I'm not thinking globally, just
on an indicator-by indicated basis. But for example, you could have an NPR that
pulls all patients with admitting diagnosis of pneumonia, then also pulls their
time of admission, time of first antibiotic, and time of ABG/SaO2, then
automatically calculates whether things were done within the time frame
allowed, and displays compliance statistics. I couldn't write such a report to
save my soul, but I know people who can. The hangup in my facility would be
that we're not up with BMV/eMAR in the ED, where most first doses are given, so
that data would not be available electronically.
Anyway, in theory, a lot of the Core Measure stuff could be assembled by an NPR
report. But you knew that already. I'm just sort of thinking "out loud" and
trying to keep the dialog going, because I think this is an interesting and
important subject.
