A cdf is attached to those procedures in ITS on the Printing and Billing page that require a contrast material. When this Order is entered a cdf prints in Pharmacy to alert the Pharmacy that a procedure has been ordered that requires contrast. This generic med is entered on the patient's eMAR and allows for Pharmacy checking for the period of time for certain medications that are ordered. Right now, per JCAHO requirements, we are building the IV contrast that is given in Radiology as new medications. We will then train the Radiology Techs how to enter this contrast through POM and be able to document it on the MAR. Sue Susan C. Grow, R.N. We are creating a "communication tool" to be scanned to Pharmacy that contains prep info. Would love to hear if anyone has better solution. ________________________________ From: Arthur, Jerri [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 2:11 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: Imaging Contrast Oversight by Pharmacy I'm posting for our Pharmacy Director: Our pharmacy is working with the imaging department to meet the standards and intent JC has issued related to pharmacy oversight of contrast agents used in Medical imaging. We plan on pharmacy screening inpatients for use of imaging products in advance, and outpatients using pre-approved protocols. I am interested in learning how other small hospitals have done their procedures, and if Meditech can help communications. For instance, 1. are you entering all contrast agents in the Meditech PHA system like you would any other drug? 2. does your pharmacy also dispense these agents? 3. Did you create a new order type for the imaging drug dictionaries to use? We thought this might be helpful to track only contrast products. 4. Do you use any kind of Meditech automation to alert the pharmacy to an imaging procedure that needs a contrast agent screened? All help or opinions would be appreciated. Bill Arrington D.Ph.
