Valerie, We switched from Medispan, but we went with MicroMedex. I can't speak of Medispan -> FDB , but Medispan -> MDX should be about the same as what you'll see. When Meditech tells you they will purge the old Medispan stuff, don't believe it. For example, our ingredient allergy dictionary is now a "blend" of the two FSV's data. Not sure what that means exactly, but when we reactivate an inactivated drug, we get errors tied to the "ingredient allergy" field on pate 5 of the drug dictionary. That doesn't happen often, but it's still a pain. Other minor stuff is still hanging around as well.
To switch wasn't as involved as the dictionary building process before go-live, but count on needing several months to get everything straight. Would I do it again? It wasn't my decision as cost dictated the change, but, yes, I'd do it again if I were asked (how can I tell my boss "no"?)
