Joyce, I know it sounds a little odd, but our facility (before I started working here last year) attached a bed alarm (optical switch) that sounds an alarm when labels print out. I understand they did have to tape over the speaker because it was too loud originally. I've also heard of people attach bells (like little christmas bells) to the roller mechanism for the label roll.
