Charlie et al,
We've been using tallman for several years (MAGIC 5.5) with only one
minor problem, which I'll detail at the end of my reply. The key is to
use the generic equivalent field in the drug dictionary, then lookups
are no problem.

Example: Drug ID = platINOL-AQ (CISplatin) 50 MG/50 ML VIAL
               Generic equivalent = PLATINOL

as long as your Default Drug Lookup on page 1 in Cus-defined parameters
is set to "C" (A combination of Generic, Trade, and Generic
Equivalent), it'll find platINOL every time you look for PLATINOL.

The problem? any NPR reports that sort by generic.id put tallman drugs
at the end. You can work around this by converting the field to
uppercase in a computed field like this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Much easier than waiting on Meditech to make it right...

Below is a response that I received from Meditech on the subject of
tall-man
lettering. Looks like with 5.6 we'll be able to use it.

"Pharmacy DTS 7667 in the 5.6 SR1 release introduces case insensitive
lookups that allows for you to use tall man lettering. I see you are
getting 5.6 in a few weeks and this change will be part of your
update.

I'll have to look further into the thermal label question. I know that
our
development staff does monitor what is going on with ISMP. "
