We are preparing for an Upgrade to 5.61 (Magic) and this is our first big
downtime since using eMAR. We feel okay with our downtime process, but we
were wondering what other sites are doing for eMAR when the system comes
back up ("Uptime"). Some of our concerns:
* We do not want to release the eMAR to nurses until the pharmacy has
updated all of the medication profiles (new orders, dc'd orders, etc)
* We do not have any idea how long it will take for Pharmacy to enter
all of the orders, therefore, have no idea when eMAR will be released to
nurses. Anyone have a formula that we can use? For example:
# of pha orders x avg time to enter an order = time needed to
back-fill pha orders
* We have no idea how long it will take for nursing to back-fill in
eMAR. Again, does anyone have a formula to determine how long it takes to
back-fill (e.g. for every hour of time, it takes xx hours of a nurses time
to back-fill)
* How did you handle staffing for the 'uptime' process?
* Did you have staff re-enter their own meds? Or did you have a pool of
nurses who entered meds for other nurses?
* Has anyone decided to NOT back-fill the meds and just keep the
patient on a paper MAR until discharge?
* Any other suggestions for the "uptime" process
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
Thanks!
