Warren - we struggle with this. Currently it is the responsibility of the Patient Access Team (Registration/Scheduling Team). However, they have not been able to get patients to a "pre" status in a manner timely enough for the OR team that needs to get a history & physical, get patient in for testing and to get the health history completed or at least started prior to admission. As you know you cannot document on a SCH patient so the "mini-wars" occur about timeliness. Often though the OR scheduler is talking to a doctors office who does not have the time to complete the pre-registration process. We have bantied back and forth the idea of asking for a custom short form pre-reg for SDC to allow an OR scheduler to get the patient to a status that other people can start working on them, but in all honesty they don't have the time right now to make that change.
