If you use the "Surgical Assessments" routine off the main ORM menu you can access patients in SCH status and get those preliminary assessments done
before the patient comes in or gets changed to PRE status. This will not work if using the Assessments routine from the Big Board. Give it a try...works for us. Currently it is the responsibility of the Patient Access Team (Registration/Scheduling Team). However, they have not been able to get patients to a "pre" status in a manner timely enough for the OR team that needs to get a history & physical, get patient in for testing and to get the health history completed or at least started prior to admission. As you know you cannot document on a SCH patient so the "mini-wars" occur about timeliness. Often though the OR scheduler is talking to a doctors office who does not have the time to complete the pre-registration process. We have bantied back and forth the idea of asking for a custom short form pre-reg for SDC to allow an OR scheduler to get the patient to a status that other people can start working on them, but in all honesty they don't have the time right now to make that change. I am very interested in what others say about this. Thanks!
