We recently changed from Medispan to Micromedex. Can't speak specifically for Medispan -> FDB, but one thing you should check on: all ingredient allergies we had entered on patients in the past are no longer valid since the old ingredients are no longer active. Since this allergy information is demo-recall, it hangs around forever. We've attached warning flags to profiles and patient view headers warning PHA users if the patient has inactive ingredient allergies that need to be replaced by the new ones. We update these patient accounts as we come across them. Hopefully, the new allergy functionality in FDB makes this worry unnecessary. I wish MT would get it in place for the rest of us.

Very easy switch and didn't take long at all. Some lessons learned here. Meditech can run a utility to "purge" the Medispan data. However, they are breaking the ties to things. The allergies still reside on all the drugs just don't do anything because they are purged in other places. The only other thing that we noticed is that the 2-letter ROUTE mnemonics are different. Medispan used IN for Inhalation while that it In vitro in FirstData. We really have not had any issues and are happy with FirstDataBank. We made the move last fall for the new allergy model. Wed afternoon at MUSE I'll be giving an overview of the conversion to the new allergy model. HTH. Jeff Thompson, R.Ph. For those of you who have switched, were you able to do it quickly? Our contract runs out in June for medispan and we would like to get it up and running in June. Also, we heard that meditech is not supporting the new allergy management in 5.6 with medispan. Has anyone else heard about this? I found OE DTS 11586 and KB article 27309 which indicate they are. Also, if you know of any other reasons to switch from medispan to first data bank, please let me know. We don't do weight based dosing, so that is not a consideration.
