Good Luck, I'm surely biased, but I sincerely doubt that centralized scheduling can work for rehab. I'm Director of Rehab Services. We schedule for over 50 PT's OT's and ST's, who provide services to our inpatients, outpatients and Home Health patients. Our secretaries are constantly working on scheduling and changing appointments. It is a minor miracle when we coordinate PT, OT and ST appointments to the patient's satisfaction, as well as the therapist satisfaction. By the time a patient is calling for rehab services, it is usually the only service they need scheduled. They have already had diagnostic testing and physician office visits. Since they are scheduling a series of recurring appointments, each contact takes considerable time - especially since we try to be consistent in scheduling on the same providers. I would highly suggest not "fixing" this for your rehab area - if they have it working. We are a Magic site looking to speak to other facilities utilizing centralized scheduling. We currently use CWS in cardiology, radiology, rehab, and physician offices. However, each department is responsible for doing their own schedule. As a result, two or three phone calls are often needed. We are considering implementing centralized scheduling, in which a group of schedulers would schedule for all departments. The goal is to be able to schedule multiple appointments with one phone call. If you are doing centralized scheduling, did you have to purchase additional software to make it work, or were you able to accomplish it using only Meditech's CWS? Please let me know if you would be willing to speak to us, and possibly let us make a site visit.
