I have seen a number of postings over the past few months re.
wristbands, labels, and barcoding. I am in the midst of implementing a
barcoding project, and would like to hear about your evaluations, best
practices, what you've found that works, or doesn't work, opinions, etc.

* the physical wristband (this is a specific question for which
I'm personally hoping for some advice)

* the physical structure of the wristband - ie. self-sticking,
clipped on with plastic clip (either built in, or added on prior to
application), or a sleeve into which you slide a printed ID strip of
paper

*       label/wristband printing options

* printing directly onto the wristband vs. printing on a label (to
be affixed to the wristband)
* printing via thermal (requires ribbon, longer lasting, higher
quality image) vs. direct thermal (no ribbon, shorter lasting, less
expensive)
* print wristbands from a wristband printer, and labels from a
label printer
*       print wristbands and labels on a combined 8 1/2 x 11 form from a
laser printer

*       label content

* patient name, account number barcode, account number text, unit
number, date of birth, etc.

I will be compiling the responses (and links to other
websites/documents) at  <http://www.sillyspot.com/wiki/index.php/Labels>
http://www.sillyspot.com/wiki/index.php/Labels where you can refer in
the future, or add comments directly.
Thanks everybody!
Doug
