We just had a custom delivered that warns the user if there is a doc
with a similar mnemonic. It will not be fool proof by any means but it
will help. We had to pay for it.

We are trying to get our folks to use the convention of N \ xxx
(first 3 characters of the docs mnemonic) as the method of selecting
the doc in any doctor field (Lab and OE anyway). This way, all the docs
with the same last names will be grouped together instead of being
spread out between pages when doing a normal doc lookup. It is really
slick if folks will use it. This combined with the custom should
minimize our risk occurrence (incident) reports.

Yes, we have had that issue in the past. We decided there is no
"system" fix for such a problem. The users are just being careless. We
used incident reports and relied on our compliance department to correct
the issue. What was once a common problem is now very rare...

The question is:
Is anyone having problems with nursing and registration selecting the
wrong physician mnemonic when two physicians have similar names like
George Miller(MILGE) and Grady Miller (MILGR)? What have you done to
help that?

Thanks Mickey - Please forward me any responses.
