We had decided not to require nursing to acknowledge medications in eMAR (as they are already acknowledging the orders in the order acknowledgement routine on the status board).
The nurse are using the Med due flag and Worklist as a guide to know what meds are due to be given /to pull. We have noticed that if multiple edits to a med had been done - it displays asterisk as the status. When the med is DC'd - Meditech is now telling us the status does not update in the eMAR, Med Due list or Worklists from " ****" to DC and will not unless the nurses acknowledge the med in eMAR after the DC order was placed. Same thing for deactivated and reactivated meds. It will continue to show a med as being at a held status unless nursing ack's the med on the eMAR after it was reactivated (which I think could potentially lead to an error of omission!). This changes the process of referencing what meds need to be pulled from either looking at the Med Due list or Worklist to: A. Access eMAR. B. Acknowledge any unacknowledged med orders so the status gets updated C. Either use the eMAR or back out of eMAR and utilize Med Due list or worklist to reference when pulling the meds. OR - When acknowledging med orders on the Status Board - they would have to ack the order there and then access the eMAR to ack it there as well. Question - Is your site acknowledging meds on the eMAR? If so - at what point are they doing it? Also, what are they using as a reference for pulling their meds?
