We are C/S v5.5.2 and attempted to do this with our last update. In test
it worked great (creat clearances - urine and plasma - on same
analyzer). Separate bar code numbers were created (prior to label
printing which is different from the norm) and you could see them on
internal inquiry, but when the bar codes printed on the specimen
portion of the label, the urine label (in the case of clearances)
initially still printed the serum bar code number. The analyzer read it
correctly but the labels did not display it correctly. 2 additional
DTS's later all the labels started printing the barcode as "1". Seems
the keyword "lsp bar code num" no longer worked. Meditech sent the
issue to development which has been there since 11/16/06. We started
testing this on 09/29/06. Still waiting.

We really could be using it but the Lead Tech for the area did not want
to until the bar codes displayed on the labels were correct. I can see
her point. My recommendation is to wait on this - until MT gets the bugs
worked out. I will try to let you know when and if we get it going. It
is really slick and actually can be a true enhancement if MT can get it
to work as designed.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Sample type enhancement in LAB

Is anyone using the sample types for containers in LAB to generate
different bar code labels for different sample types per specimen? If
so, does it work well for your lab? In reading the DTS which introduced
this functionality, it seems to me it has just made specimen tracking
and processing more complicated. Are you able to tell visually from the
label that this bar code for the red tube only contains the tests which
require a red tube and not a green tube test that has combined to the
same specimen because they are in the same department?

Does anyone else think it would make more sense to generated different
specimen numbers if the tests have different collection containers but
are in the same department?
