Hello all,

Here are two replies I've received so far:

1. We set up a provider called: NL for Non-Local. We enter the
registration and orders with NL as the submitting and the real docs name
in the comment field, along with a fax number for resulting. We then fax
a form to the ordering NL docs office for them to fill out - telling
them that for us to be able to do testing in the future we need this
data - (name, address, license # etc). We verify and then add them to
our DB. Sounds like what you are doing. We also have someone who
follows up if there is no return fax with the requested info.

It seems to work well. I am Lab so I don't see the MIS side of it but we
have used this system for a while.

2. We experienced this same thing. At the time, new providers
were only entered by Medical Records, so Admissions, DI, Rehab, Lab
would use DNOS and then MR would put the provider into the provider
dictionary etc., then give to ADM to correct.

We had the same problem with some DI scans being completed and the
report going out the same day, so we asked that certain areas be given
access to the provider dictionary. This has worked well for us.

The DI department puts in a skeleton provider and then MR comes behind
and adds all the pertinent address/fax/etc. numbers.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] RE: PROVIDER NOT IN MIS PROVIDER DICTIONARY

Hello L-list,

We frequently have patients who present to Admitting to register for
outpatient Labs or Imaging studies ordered by a physician or provider
who has not yet been entered into our MIS Provider dictionary. For the
longest time we have used a generic "OTHER" as the ordering physician
(in order to get the patient registered and taken care of quickly), with
research and Provider dictionary entries made by our Medical Staff
Office after the fact, and sometimes rather 'haphazardly' at that.
Because of the late entries, RAD reports often do not get sent to the
ordering provider (but get 'sent' somehow to Dr Other), and with the new
requirement for NPI numbers and claims potentially rejecting for no NPI,
among other things, we know we need to find a solution to this
situation.

Is this situation experienced by any of you? If so, how does your
process work? I'd welcome any suggestions, comments, or ideas.....by the
way, we are Magic 5.5 SR3. Thanks in advance for any input,
