While you cannot cancel an incorrect patient report, there is no reason you
can't modify it to reflect testing was done on the wrong patient - the original
results should then be stored as a comment and not visible unless you arrowed
into the report in PCI. You could create a canned text entry "Performed on
wrong patient" (e.g. mnemonic WP) and replace the result(s) with ;WP (plugs the
canned text in). Incorrect results could not be seen then unless they viewed
the actual report. I'm showing a portion of a report showing how it will appear
(I thought we had canned text with ND as a mnemonic, but apparently not - it
gives you an idea anyway);

 COLOR | | | YEL
                      | ND

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Lab Corrected Reports

Good afternoon,
We are Magic 5.4, soon to be 5.6, and was hoping for feedback on how
everyone was handling corrected reports. Within the LAB module and
reporting, Meditech is great at documenting any edits and/or comments to a
corrected report. My question focuses on how the report is viewed in PCI. If
the original result is not changed and only a comment added (such as wrong
patient...) the original result can be viewed and the comments are indicated
by a "C" in PCI. If a doc does not right arrow to view the full report a
second error may be made. We do not cancel labs drawn on wrong patients (not
allowed in New York).
Looking to see how others handle this and to get any ideas to improve our
reporting.
Thanks in advance.
Kathy
