I was told by our Medicare biller that these codes are used when entered
via Direct Data Entry into Omnipro. We have both called Empire Medicare
and we were both told that they are also required on electronic claims.
Unfortunately- they can't tell us where. I am able to find this chart
below that shows the relationship of the Payer ID codes to Value Codes,
but we have been told we need to show the letter code somewhere in
addition to the Value Code and primary payer amount. Maybe we are being
misled by the people at provider services?

Code Description
MSP VC
A Working Aged with Employer Group Health Plan (EGHP)
12
B ESRD beneficiary with EGHP in 30-month coordination period
13
C Requesting conditional payment
14, 15, or 47
D Automobile, including No-fault
14
E Workers' Compensation
15
F Public Health Service (PHS) or other Federal Agency
16
G Disabled with Large Group Health Plan (LGHP)
43
H Federal Black Lung Program
41
I Veteran's Administration

I'm pretty familiar with the 837 claim; however, I don't see any
specification that is one character for Medicare = Z. SVD segments
typically have Payer ID Codes in them -- (i.e. 2330B - Other Payer or
2430 Line Adjudication Information) an most of those require Medicare to
be identified as two digits.

Who is giving you this information?

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] MSP codes in 837 claim file

Can anyone tell me where the Payer ID codes for MSP claims need to go in
an 837 file? These are the codes where Z is Medicare, A is Working
Aged/EGHP, B is ESRD, G is Disabled/LGHP, etc. I can't find where these
go and I have called Medicare 4 times and they can't/won't give me a
spec ID. Can someone please clue me in? Thanks!
