David: Are you trying to script the entire 22686 characters or only a specific section?
Excel can parse data through the VB Macro which could be useful if you are trying to capture all of the characters (in 150 character segments); Otherwise, if you are only trying to actually script a specific section, you could use the Right, Left or Mid functions in Excel. (It would also be interesting to see if you could capture any kind of delimiters in your original data files like pipes, commas, or quotes -- excel handles these very nicely). Ultimately I plan to script the extracted data into meditech using BWS. But first I have to parse these 100 mile long lines of data. Does anyone have experience parsing info out of a line this long? If so, how??!! When I import a line into excel, it puts the whole 23K line into cell A1, which of course does me no good. Any ideas...? TIA.
