Hi Kelly, 7 years ago, we decided to set user mnemonics using the first three letters of the last name and first two letters of the first name (e.g. John Smith would be SMIJO). The core team felt that this would be the most user friendly. For the most part that has been true with a few notable exceptions. Users lose sight of the fact that this is a unique user ID and look at it as an extension of their name. When divorce or marriage happens, we can of course change the display name but the unique mnemonic stays the same. This has caused lots of frustration and anger for some users who feel that this is inappropriate. Because there is no way to link mnemonics, we stick to the original policy that your unique ID is yours for the duration of your employment. Most staff understand the need to keep their track record in the system intact but a few don't.
The PC's are named with the location they are in combined with the phone extension from the phone closest to their location. For example, the PC in the nursery is NUR1234 and one in Day Surgery is DS1234. For the most part, this has been a good approach. Hope this helps. Have a safe 4th of July. Teri Teri R. Are there any facilities that have suggestions for user mnemonics and pc hostnames? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Things to watch out for are of particular interest, also. Another item, is anyone using the Meditech mnemonic tied to Network username for single sign-on? What are your thoughts, experiences with that? Thanks in advance.
