We do have a couple of people outside of IS who can write reports (and
one who actually does so), but we are very careful to insure that all
new reports are submitted to IS for inclusion in the database we keep on
them and so that we can get approval on them from our security
committee. Such access is extremely limited in terms of who and what
modules.

To be honest, it's not a bad idea; a person who is able and willing to
write reports can take a big load off the demands on IS. Our "outside"
expert is in PHA and - if the reports he has done for PHA were to have
been done by IS - they'd still be largely in process or not as well
designed as they are.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Report writer access

We've had a request at our hospital for someone in the QRM department to
get trained on and be given access to the NPR report writer. Just
wondering how other hospitals handle these types of requests? Do you
allow employees outside of IT access to the report writer?
