Hello All!!!
I am new to this list, and I hope that this issue has not
been covered already. I have noticed a few posts concerning UB04 printing,
and also settings that have worked for other organizations. I have also
seen the Meditech Knowledge Base articles on this. I have run into a
problem that I believe may be a problem across the spectrum for people who
are using HP LaserJet 4250's to print their UB04's.
I have been able to configure our 4250's to print
"correctly" using slightly different settings that Meditech recommends.
Nevertheless, I ran into a problem that either Meditech is unaware of, or
one that should prompt them to update their online documentation. According
to our billing specialist, everybody will soon be required to use a 4-digit
code for Type Of Bill (the field at the top-right of the UB04L form).
Currently, Meditech on our system is configured to use a 3-digit field, and
these claims are printing without any problem. However, when we use a
4-digit field for this field, the 4th character gets truncated. After a few
hours of messing with settings, along with a call to HP Technical Support, I
am thoroughly convinced that this is a limitation on the "standard" HP
LaserJet 4250 printers. I was told by HP that in order to use the
"edge-to-edge" printing feature, we would have to purchase an additional
proprietary compact flash card from HP at the cost of $750 a card (not sure
if that was MSRP or true retail). There is no mention in Meditech's
knowledge base that this specific option is REQUIRED by Meditech to get
these things to print correctly.
My question to the outside world is this: Are your claims
printing correctly using a 4-digit field for Type of Bill? If so, do you
have the compact flash card option from HP?
Any input or discussion would be greatly appreciated, and I
would be glad to be more specific on my explanations. I couldn't even find
the "Edge-to-Edge Override" option on any of the 4 BRAND NEW printers we
just purchased, and the tech from HP said that was not an option on her
printer either. If this compact flash option is REQUIRED, it would AT LEAST
be nice if that was mentioned in Meditech's documentation so we could
correctly estimate the total cost of moving to an edge-to-edge printer.
$3000 is a lot of money to be off by in my opinion.
