We use an EMC san with our Magic servers. We use the San for a lot of other needs as well (File Servers, other applications, etc). We made sure that the Meditech servers had a dedicated pipe to the SAN whereas some of the lower priority windows servers share a pipe. We also have an IBM SAN that came with our AGFA PACS system and we ended up getting some extra space on it for our own use so now we have a number of non-meditech servers using that as well.
Mixing and matching SAN's and servers is not a problem; just make sure that your infrastructure (SAN Fabric) is setup properly - think of it as the same design/care requirements as your network (including redundancy, maintenance contract, etc). As for purge parameters, we never delete anything in meditech and have been live now for 7 years; our largest segment is only at the 64gb size. What SAN did you go with? Is it a corporate SAN or just used with Meditech? Do you still set purge parameters in your modules or keep everything for years? Is performance slower with more data stored online? Etc..
