I am posting this for our business office manager.
Our hospital has greater than 50 overlaps each week due to the 72 hour rule and the outpatient same day rule. Due to Medicare's repetitive billing rules, etc., we manually handle the merging of these accounts. We merge the 72 hour rule claims with the I/P as soon as we are aware of the overlap but on the same day outpatients, we have to wait until the diagnosis. codes are added to be able to merge accurately. I need some new ideas of how this can be handled more efficiently. Thank you.
