Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Nursing staff entering Coded Allergies

We plan to roll out the entry of Allergies to all Nursing staff where they
would use the Coded Allergy Screen for data entry. (Allergy/Adverse Reactions
screen- For Interaction Checking)

I would be interested in speaking with anyone who is currently doing this. Our
pharmacist is asking that we enter allergies as ingredient allergies when
available. We are concerned about our process we may need to implement that
will help the user when they are not able to find what they need. The first
option is to call the pharmacy, however we do not have a 24 hour pharmacy. We
have an evening Pharmacy Service we can contact which would be our 2nd option.
Our Nursing Director has concerns about how much time we may be adding to the
nurses workload.

We will be looking at creating some type of cross reference for very common
allergies that need to be addressed outside of the 'ingredient' world. A quick
reference, but obviously we won't be able to cover every scenario.

Any thoughts, suggestions, and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Please reply to the contact noted below.

Thanks in advance!
