I would try this to try and "isolate" the problem. Take a problem drug. Scan it using your 2D scanner into the Windows Notepad. See if you get the letters/numbers.
If so, then enter an order in PHA and where it is asking for the drug (some place you can scan from!), scan the drug in and see if the drug comes up. If so, the scanner and PHA are working correctly and the code is loaded into the drug dictionary either on NDC or, more likely, in ALT NDC. Then try it in the eMAR desktop. This should at least isolate it to where the problem is. The thing to remember is that the barcode scanner is just shoving the "characters" in like you were typing. HTH. I need some help/advice regarding barcode scanners and the new eMAR desktop. We received most of the changes for the new desktop eMAR and it was enabled in our test system a week or so ago. We have been using the Symbol DS6608-DS200007 scanners with the traditional eMAR and the Pharmacy has been using them to scan the meds into the PHA dictionary. Now, these scanners will not work with the desktop eMAR. I had to go back to using a 1D scanner from Metrologic. The problem is that these scanners only read about 1/2 of the formulary. A lot of the drugs have 2D barcodes on them (at least the ones we are getting). Meditech is telling me the Symbol scanners need to be reprogrammed. I am not an expert (far from it) on barcode technologies but if the same scanner reads the same barcodes in PHA, NUR, and the traditional eMAR (and on a blank word document), could it possibly be something wrong with the programming in the new eMAR which is not recognizing these scanners? We go live in a little over a month and I've already ordered 225 of the Symbols. I should be able to exchange them but I have to have a 2D scanner. Thoughts? Help? Advice?
