We discharge the patients with a depart of LMSE, (Left before Medical
Screening Exam). Since the patient was seen by the triage nurse, the
patient gets a "triage only" charge. It's a very small charge, but since
the patient did receive a service, regardless of how small, they get a
charge. We're in California, so we are required to report statistics
regarding these patients, so we have to register them and track them.

08/01/2007 08:30 [MEDITECH-L] EDM and LWBS Patients
Our hospital just went live with the EDM tracker and have run into
issues with those patients that are Left Without Being Seen. The idea
of the tracker was to capture statistics but it seems this is causing
more issues than it may be worth with our outside billing group. I would
be so grateful if other hospitals out there who are using EDM could
provide us with your process on how you are capturing LWBS patients.
Are you cancelling these accounts? Are you departing these patients in
the system with LWBS, a no charge? How do you capture statistics on
these patients.
