I can obviously provide only examples that exist for the N900 (imagine their
equivalents for the successor). Thus, in no particular order: fcamera,
easy debian, shortcutd, tweak flash version, power kernel, mobile hotspot,
fmtxfaker, faster application manager, dreamremote, most emulators that
require hardware-specific mods due to button/resolution issues, etc. These
are all
off-limits to MeeGo Extras as they are clearly device/vendor specific, and
as is, practically none of them would be able to enter Ovi (even if it was
free).
Unfortunately, some of these also happen to be some of the more popular
ones in maemo.org hinting that there is a serious interest in the general
population. And if there is interest...

...of course they don't need to adapt, but then we're taking a step back to
about
2007-2008 with all the wild-west of gronmeyer repos and the hunt for
packages
that make your device do what it was supposed to be doing in the first
place.
And the more repos people use, the less authoritative MeeGo Extras will be,
far less that maemo.org's Extras is, as there will be 'wild repos' vs MeeGo
Extras
fragmentation right from the start. Whether that's good or bad for the
principles
of aforementioned channels and their long term success ? No idea. I'm just
saying it looks as if Ovi/AppUp + MeeGo Extras < Ovi + maemo.org, for better
or
worse.
