Of course that is an important factor, but how can you drive market and
3rd party developer demand without convincing ODMs and operators? Note
though that by applying that rule Android would have never got in the
place it is, without convincing some operators and some ODMs first. 

Anyway, organize your work as you wish. Just think how would you
leapfrog Android in the current situation.

That is a nice tale but I encourage you to make a reality check. Every
remarkable Android product has come with a combo of a powerful ODM and a
powerful operator. This is how you get big marketing budget and big
volumes nowadays. That marketing and those volumes are almost a
condition sine qua to attract the attention of users and developers at
large. And yes, then you still need the cool UX, SDK and apps to excite
them and if you get an excited user and developer base you are set to
grow. But without volumes the rest is handicapped.

Do you think they will have a choice with MeeGo? What does MeeGo need in
order to become an attractive choice for ODMs, operators... app
developers and end users?
